Letter of Accommodation
LOA (Letter of Accommodation)
A Letter of Accommodation (LOA) is an unofficial document that offers an official statement regarding the educational accommodations the student is registered at the Centre for Accessible Learning is entitled. The LOA provides both accommodations in class as well as accommodations for exams and tests. The accommodation is intended to ensure equal opportunities for students to meet the essential requirements of the course or program.
The options listed in the LOA are based explicitly on academic disability requirements. For instance, a physician or psychologist might recommend that a student be given extra time for exams or require help with note-taking. Students can discuss the needs of their Disabilities Counsellor at their appointment, and then they’ll work together to develop the LOA.
After it has been created, the students can access their LOA via the CAL Online Portal and by contacting an Accessibility Counsellor. Students are accountable for ensuring they receive their professors a copy of the LOA every semester when they seek accommodations for their course.
